Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange a été fondé par le batteur Ziggy Zeitgeist, un pilier de la scène musicale australienne, qui a tourné et enregistré avec le collectif Melbourne Nu-Soul/ future-jazz « 30/70 ». Sa musique a été félicitée dans l’univers jazz et soutenue par Gilles Peterson, Kamaal Williams, Byron the Aquarius et Alexander Nut, pour ne citer qu’eux.
Ayant grandi en Australie, sans véritable club culture, Ziggy a passé ses premières années dans le « bush doof », des rave de l’arrière-pays où les systèmes sons se perdaient dans des endroits reculés et où la musique vibrait du petit matin jusqu’au petit soir. C’est ce que Ziggy décrit comme le terrain de jeu de la musique électronique australienne : « C’est notre culture de la musique électronique. Il s’agit d’explorer le spectre de la conscience et d’établir un lien avec nous-mêmes, avec les autres et avec la terre. »
Z*F*E*X est la métaphore de la danse music à l’état humain. Fortement influencé par la culture des clubs et les expériences psychédéliques transcendantes, Z*F*E*X est une odyssée sonore continue, où les synthés se mêlent aux flûtes et où les drums jazz viennent ajouter une énergie brute aux sonorités broken beat.

Headed up by drummer Ziggy Zeitgeist, a staple of the Australian music scene, most prominently touring and recording with Melbourne Nu-Soul/ future-jazz collective ‘30/70’. Ziggy’s music has already been championed across the breadth of the jazz and dance world, with support from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Kamaal Williams, Byron the Aquarius and Alexander Nut just to name a few.
Growing up in Australia, with no real club culture in sight, Ziggy’s formative years were at the ‘bush doof’ – an outback rave where speakers were driven to remote lands and dance music would blast from the wee hours in the morning to the wee hours at night. This is what Ziggy describes as the playground of Australian Electronic Music. “This is our culture of electronic music. It’s about exploring the spectrum of consciousness and a connection with ourselves, one another and the land.”
Z*F*E*X is the synthesis of dance music in human form. A live band experience humanizing the extended DJ set. Heavily influenced by club culture and transcendent psychedelic expériences – Z*F*E*X is a continuous odyssey of sound, where synths intertwine with flutes. Jazz drums are played with the raw energy of classic broken beat records, and natures call and the response is mimicked in musical form.
